How to apply for PAN Card

PAN (Permanent Account Number) is ten-digit alphanumeric number issued by Income Tax Department. PAN is mandatory to be quoted for any transaction with Income Tax Department. CBDT (Central Board of Direct Taxes) also requires PAN for any economic or financial transaction. PAN has also been made mandatory for obtaining telephone connection, cellular telephone connection and deposit of more than Rs. 50,000 in banks or post office.

Who can obtain a PAN Card:-
·         Individuals
·         Hindu Undivided Family
·         Company
·         Association of Persons
·         Association of Persons (Trust)
·         Firm
·         Body of Individuals
·         Local Authority
·         Artificial Judicial Person

Documents required for PAN:-
  •  Recent, colour passport size photograph (3.5 * 2.5 cms)
  • Identity proof for individuals:- Any one of

·         School Leaving Certificate
·         Matriculation Certificate
·         Degree from recognized educational institute
·         Depository account
·         Credit card         
·         Bank account
·         Water bill
·         Ration card
·         Property tax assessment order
·         Passport
·         Voter identity card
·         Drivers Licence
·         Certificate of Identity signed by MP, MLA , Municipal Councillor or Gazetted Officer
Ø  In case of minor, any document of Parent or Guardian has to be submitted
Ø  In case of HUF, any document of Karta has to be submitted

  •   Address  proof individuals:- Any one of

·         Electricity Bill
·         Telephone Bill
·         Depository Account
·         Credit Card
·         Bank Account
·         Ration Card
·         Employer Certificate
·         Passport
·         Voter Identity Card
·         Property tax assessment order
·         Drivers Licence
·         Rent receipt
·         Certificate of Identity signed by MP, MLA , Municipal Councillor or Gazetted Officer
Ø  In case of minor, any document of Parent or Guardian has to be submitted
Ø  In case of HUF, any document of Karta has to be submitted

In case of PAN Card for other than individuals following documents can serve as address proof and identity proof:-
                  ·         Copy of Certificate of Registrations issued by Registrar of Companies
·         Copy of Certificate of Registrations issued by Registrar of Firms
·         Copy of Partnership Deed
·         Copy of Trust Deed
·         Copy of Certificate of Registration Number issued by Charity Commissioner of the Registrar of Co-operative Society
·         Any other document originating from State or Central Government establishing address and identity proof of such entity

Fees:-
Rs. 94 only (Rs. 944 for NRI/card dispatch outside India)

How to apply:-
Offline
Step 1:- Download application form from Form 49a or collect it from any PAN collection centre
Step 2:- Fill the form with following instruction - Instructions
Step 3:- Submit the PAN Card to any of the following collection centers - Collection centers

Online
Step 1: - Visit Online PAN Form and fill in the form (visit Online PAN Form for NRI in case of NRI)
Step 2:- Fill the form with following instruction - Insturctions
Step 3:- Take the print out, attach necessary documents, Demand Draft or Pay Order and submit to any of the following collection centers - Collection Centers

It generally takes 15-25 days for PAN Card to arrive at your door step through post.
